Bryson City Girl Scout Troop 2345 went backcountry camping in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The girls had two afternoons of training prior to the trip. They learned all about how to make it through the backcountry with as little as possible, all while leaving no trace on the wilderness. On their trip, the girls got to experience all the essentials of backpacking. They cooked meals (including chocolate cake!) on a tiny stove, hung food on bear cables, filtered water, and of course, used the great outdoors for a bathroom! The Juniors had a great time on their outing, learning from experiences that’ll stay with them for a lifetime.
