Calling all homeschoolers! Did you know that the Girl Scout program is a great way to get involved in your community, meet new friends and learn with others as you experience new things?
In Girl Scouts, girls learn so many important life skills like goal setting, decision making, project management, people skills and more. The badgework Girl Scouts do can often be translated into what you are learning at home, complementing your schoolwork and introducing fun ways to teach new concepts.
Are you a part of a homeschooling co-op? Start a Girl Scout troop with some of the girls you already hang out with! You can also go solo and become an Individually Registered Girl, allowing you flexibility to fit Girl Scouting into your schedule when it works best for you, but still have the opportunity to attend Girl Scout events and activities with others.
Girl Scouting offers so much for today’s girls. Here are just a few things that are part of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience:
New Family Experiences: Girl Scouting is all about discovery, which means there will be new experiences for girls to have with their families. Whether you work together to unlock a new life skill, attend family events at camp or discover workshops hosted by our community partners, new memories and bonding experiences are plentiful.
Community: Girls connect with their communities through service projects, which can be anything from volunteering at a local animal shelter to running a canned food drive to beautifying a local park. Girls often pick who and where they want to make a difference! As girls get older, they also have the opportunity to earn the Girl Scout Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards by planning and executing a Take Action project that has a sustainable impact on the world around them.
Friends: Being in a troop is a great way to meet new people and make new friends! Troops do a variety of activities and have a set schedule of meetings throughout the year. Parents can also gain a wider support system with the other parents in the troop. It takes a village to raise a child, and the more the merrier!
Outdoors: Girls can also go camping and enjoy the outdoors with Girl Scouts. There are summer camp overnight and day camp sessions, troop camping weekends, badge workshops conducted at our camp properties, family camping opportunities, horse programs and more! Some of girls’ favorite camp activities include canoeing, horseback riding, archery and high ropes courses.
Entrepreneurship: When girls sell cookies through the annual Girl Scout Cookie Program, they are participating in the largest girl-led business in the world. Selling cookies teaches girls business skills that will transfer to real world experiences- all while having fun! Girls can also participate in the Fall Product Program each year, which is another great opportunity for girls to learn how to communicate well with others and set plans into action to reach a certain goal.
