Animal-Powered Learning

We hope everyone has a safe and smooth back-to-school season! If you enjoyed our S’more Summer Reading Challenge, you are going to love the Brownie Book Club at the Barn happening at Circle C Equestrian Center this September and October. Read a chapter from a chosen book and bring the story to life through horse-powered reading activities that build comprehension, confidence and a lifelong love of reading. Set in the engaging environment of the barn, this unique program blends literacy with movement, imagination and time spent around horses-no prior horse experience necessary.

This October and November, Girl Scouts of all ages can take a deep dive into science through our virtual Ocearch & Girl Scouts: Sharks, Science and Service events. Discover the world of marine biology, conservation and cutting-edge technology in this engaging virtual experience! Explore STEM concepts while tracking the real-time movements and data of your favorite sharks. Want to explore STEM concepts on land? Girl Scout Juniors can head to Circle C for Horses in STEM: Escape Stable, where you will solve puzzles, crack codes and uncover the science behind horses in an escape room-themed challenge.

Take Family Time Outside

Every September, Girl Scouts explore the natural wonders found across our country during the Girl Scouts Love State Parks Weekend. We’ve partnered with several state parks in our footprint to bring family-friendly fun and unique experiences like learning how waterfalls are made, making nature art or even going on a night hike complete with s’mores! Find events on our calendar for unique activities at state parks near you and find more resources and the downloadable activity guide on our badges and patches webpage.

The following weekend on Saturday, September 20, you can bring your family and friends to experience the outdoors and classic camp activities as we celebrate Keyauwee Program Center’s 80th Birthday.

Celebrate International Day of the Girl

Every year on October 11, the global community comes together to celebrate International Day of the Girl. It’s the day when you can recognize the power of girls everywhere—and highlight, discuss and take action to advance the rights of, and opportunities for, girls across the globe. Earn the patch by downloading the International Day of the Girl activity guide or by joining us in Greensboro for an interactive workshop! Girl Scout Daisies, Brownies and Juniors can Grow, Glow and Connect, while Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors can focus on Balance, Bravery and Belonging.

Safe Sitter Classes

Safe@Home and Intro to Safe Babysitting classes are being offered this fall to help Girl Scouts learn essential safety skills, emergency preparedness and decision-making strategies that build her confidence and independence while reinforcing personal responsibility.

Patch of the Month: Period Power

Period Power is an initiative aimed at addressing period poverty through education and awareness. It emphasizes the absence of period product coverage in government programs like WIC and SNAP, resulting in health and hygiene difficulties for many students. The program offers a Period Power Toolkit to assist schools in providing period products, ensuring students can prioritize both their health and education.

Adult Volunteer Resources & Trainings

Know an amazing volunteer? Nominate them for an Adult Award! In addition to the five awards presented at the service unit level, you can also nominate a volunteer for nationally recognized awards that will be presented at Annual Meeting.
