Local Girl Scout Wins National Scholarship

Gabrielle McIntyre of Guilford County and a member of Girl Scout Troop 2483 with Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont (GSCP2P) has been selected as a National Gold Award Scholarship recipient from Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA).

The GSUSA Gold Award Scholarship recognizes one outstanding Gold Award Girl Scout from each of the 111 councils across the United States. Recipients are selected based on their project exemplifying the core components of the Girl Scout Gold Award and demonstrating extraordinary leadership that drives lasting change within the community and beyond. McIntyre was awarded a total of $5,000 in scholarships monies.

For her Girl Scout Gold Award project, “Finding Joy in Art,” McIntyre partnered with Journey Adult Day Center in Greensboro to design and paint a mural inside the facility to lift the spirits of the clients and bring them happiness. She also ran an art supply drive to donate to senior citizens and promote artistic expression throughout the older generation.

“Earning the Girl Scout Gold Award is a great honor, and these leadership projects positively impact so many different groups of people and communities,” said Jaclyn Johnson, Chief Mission Delivery Officer of GSCP2P. “For Gabrielle to have her project recognized on a national level makes all her hard work and dedication even more of an accomplishment.”

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest achievement a Girl Scout can earn in Girl Scouting. Gold Award Girl Scouts address the root cause of a problem, plan and implement innovative solutions to drive change and lead a team of people to success. As they take action to transform their world, Gold Award Girl Scouts gain tangible skills and prove they are the leaders our community and world need.
