Media Girl Kennedy’s Venture Out Adventure

“This summer, I spent a whole week overnight at Girl Scout camp at the Keyauwee Program Center in Sophia, North Carolina. At first, I felt slightly nervous about being away from home, but once I saw my bunkmates, I started to feel excited. Funny thing about when I went to camp, I was bunking with 3 girls I already knew through Girl Scouts!

Everyday was filled with activities, like canoeing, crafts, archery and hiking. My favorite activity was the hiking and camping we did for one night. We had a fairy dance party which was hosted by the CITs (Counselors-in-Training). I gained some confidence, and I climbed the rock wall even though it was a little scary. By the time the week was over, I was tired, but really happy!

The highlight of the week was being named ‘the keeper of the ashes’ for the second time! That was so memorable and exciting, and I can’t wait to go back next year!

A first-time camper should go to Girl Scout camp because it’s a chance to try new things, make new friends and build confidence in a supportive environment. Girl Scout camp is all about lifelong memories!”

Although summer camp is over for the year, think ahead to the 2026 summer camp season during the Girl Scout Fall Product Program happening now!
