Salvation Bags and Pamphlets: Maddie Hinkle’s Girl Scout Gold Award

Maddie Hinkle of Girl Scout Troop 41495 in Davidson County has earned the Girl Scout Gold Award for a community leadership and service project that focuses on culture and heritage to help others grow their faith.

Aiming to offer resources to new followers in the area, the Girl Scout Ambassador partnered with The Father’s Storehouse Ministries for her project, “Salvation Bags and Pamphlets,” to welcome new members and help them on their journey.

“After people come to Christ sometimes, they don’t know how to grow or continue their walk with the Lord,” said Hinkle, a Girl Scout of 12 years. “With these pamphlets I’ve created, I will be able to help these people.”

Maddie created bags to be given out by The Father’s Storehouse Ministries containing a Bible, the pamphlet she created and other goods to aid new members of their community as they grow their faith.

Girls in high school can earn the Girl Scout Gold Award by creating sustainable change on a community or world issue. They address the root cause of a problem, plan and implement innovative solutions to drive change and lead a team of people to success. Each Girl Scout must dedicate a minimum of 80 hours to planning and carrying out their project that benefits the community and has a long-lasting impact.

Gold Award Girl Scouts gain tangible skills and prove they are the leaders our community and world need, and those from the Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont (GSCP2P) council have created community gardens, addressed issues in foster care, combated bullying in schools and so much more.

“My Gold Award project has impacted me by showing me what I am capable of,” said Hinkle. “Before my project, I didn’t think I was a creative person and thought I would struggle with this, but I discovered that I enjoyed the process of it.”

Thousands of Girl Scouts across the country earn the Girl Scout Gold Award each year, which first began in 1916 as the Golden Eaglet. Earning the Gold Award opens doors to scholarships, preferred admission tracks for college and amazing career opportunities. In 2025, 30 GSCP2P Girl Scouts earned their Gold Award.
