Camp Updates

Keyauwee Program Center:
A special thank you to the 50+ volunteers who joined us for our Camp Workday on Saturday, March 28! Thanks to their hard work, we accomplished a wide range of projects, including cleaning units, shelters, bathhouses and sheds; fire pit cleanup; storage organization; deck and stair repairs; Fairy Garden maintenance; landscaping; leaf blowing and more. We’re also excited to share that we’ve partnered with a local company to prepare the pool for summer camp, with work having started the week of March 23. Looking ahead, additional projects planned for April include repairs to the Nature Center, amphitheater, dining hall retaining wall and the Director’s house, among others.

There are still a few units available this spring at Keyauwee Program Center—reserve your spot and join us at camp!

And don’t forget: all girls in rising grades 2–12 are invited to attend summer camp at Keyauwee Program Center. Tomorrow is the final day to save with our $50 Early Bird discount! We want every Girl Scout to be able to attend camp regardless of their financial situation. Once you register for a program and pay a $50 non-refundable deposit, you will have access to our online financial aid application. Receiving financial aid is confidential. Our camp staff do not know who receives financial assistance. Last year, campers who applied for financial assistance received an average of $280 to use on registration fees. To apply Cookie Dough, Daisy Dollars or Nut Buck credits to your summer camp registration fees, please contact info@girlscoutsp2p.org.

Camp Pisgah:
We’re excited to share that a lot of great progress is happening at camp—major improvements to our cisterns and water system are nearly complete, we’ve recently finished electrical and internet upgrades and we’re very close to hiring a new ranger. As we continue this work, we want to ensure the best and safest experience for our volunteers. Due to a few delays, we are postponing the April 11 workday to Saturday, May 9. This will allow time for our water system to be fully operational and for us to plan meaningful, productive projects for the day. The time and location will remain the same, so we hope you will sign up to join us on May 9 for a Camp Workday. Official reopening date for Camp Pisgah has not yet been determined, but the team is hopeful for mid-May.

Camp Ginger Cascades:
We continue to actively assess repair needs across camp, focusing on both the scope of work and associated costs to ensure we are planning responsibly and effectively. Current priority projects include, but are not limited to:

  • Roof replacements across multiple structures
  • Repairs to the well system
  • Necessary repairs to the Director’s house
  • Dining Hall decking and roof improvements

This ongoing assessment will help us prioritize projects, allocate resources strategically and ensure the long-term sustainability and safety of camp facilities. The camp will remain closed during this assessment.

Curiosity Quest Registrations Close This Week

Don’t miss out on a day of hands-on discovery! We’re hosting Curiosity Quest on April 11 in Winston-Salem and inviting Girl Scouts and the broader community to explore interactive STEM stations led by community experts and organizations. Activities include building mini aquaponics systems, creating simple electrical circuits, designing a green city, exploring horse genetics, investigating stream health by studying aquatic insects, learning about composting and food waste solutions and discovering dog safety and training with AKC ambassadors.

The event will also feature a special guest speaker, Dr. Mary Lynne Dittmar, President and CEO of Dittmar Associates. With more than 30 years of research focused on helping humans live and work in space, she currently advises NASA on the future of human space exploration.

Admission to Kaleideum Children’s Museum is included in the event fee, so you can continue exploring after the event.
