Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont is excited to work with several NC State Park Partners as part of Girl Scouts Love State Parks Weekend, happening September 12-13! Our schedule will include a line-up of live virtual events/activities and pre-recorded videos featuring outdoor experiences for all kids! Saturday, September 12
10 a.m. – New River State Park (Elk Shoals Access)- LIVE on Facebook with GSCP2P
Kick off National Parks Weekend with us! Learn about all the fun things going on that you can participate in as you celebrate the great outdoors and everything your local state parks have to offer!
11:30 a.m. – Pilot Mountain State Park: Learn What This Park Has to Offer!
Pilot Mountain State Park lies above the Yadkin Valley, providing one of the most iconic views in North Carolina. The amazing geological wonder has excited many and proves to be a hot spot for a variety of plants and animals. Join us to learn more about Pilot Mountain and the wildlife that call this mountain “home!”
1 p.m. – Lake Norman State Park
Watch this prerecorded video as we discuss the proper way to set up a tent, start a fire, how to maintain your campsite to decrease interactions with wildlife and what to do when packing up camp.
3 p.m. – Haw River State Park: Girl Power Yoga- LIVE on Facebook
Yes, we are going to be jamming out to some classic songs by empowering women while we get our bodies moving! Join our Haw River female staff for this virtual live event on location at Haw River State Park. Girl Scouts Juniors and Seniors- this program can help you earn your Practice with Purpose Badge (Junior): Step 2 and Cross Training Badge (Senior): Step 2.
8 p.m. – Haw River State Park: Night Hike- LIVE on Facebook
No need for a flashlight for this evening activity- just your sense of adventure! Participants will be encouraged to safely step outside their home to follow along during our night time nature explorations. Our Night Hike will be a relaxing excursion into the misunderstood world of owls, bats and other fascinating nocturnal creatures. Participants will use their senses to appreciate the darkness and become more in-tune with their own special adaptations for dealing with the dark. Participants will be challenged to create their own nocturnal creature using common household materials.
Sunday, September 13
1 p.m. – New River State Park: Paddling
Let’s virtually explore New River State Park together! Everyone can enjoy this virtual program, and Girl Scout Seniors can work on several steps toward earning their Paddling Badge.
3 p.m. – Haw River State Park: Trail Adventure
Work on your Trail Adventure Badge at any Girl Scout level by taking a virtual hike at Haw River State Park! Ranger Lindsey walks you through what there is to see and do at the park, good things to bring on a day hike and how to entertain yourself along the trail.
5 p.m.- Chimney Rock State Park: Discover Chimney Rock
This virtual program will showcase what it is to visit Chimney Rock, as well as what we have to offer Girls Scouts throughout the year!
7 p.m. – South Mountain State Park: Fire Building
Join State Park Rangers Amanda and Mary to learn about building a campfire safely in order to enjoy and add to the love of camping. The material covered will help Girl Scout Brownies and up gain skills and knowledge toward completing camping badges. Badges covered include: Brownie: Eco-Friend or Outdoor Adventurer; Junior: Camper; Cadette: Primitive Camper; Senior: Adventure Camper; Ambassador: Survival Camper
