Join Us for Weekend of Service 2021

Every spring, Girl Scouts Carolinas Peaks to Piedmont hosts its Weekend of Service, where we encourage all our girls, volunteers and families to do a good turn for someone. The 2021 Weekend of Service will take place April 9-11, 2021, with an emphasis on environmental stewardship. Our goal this year is to have 300 people participate- so get your projects ready!

Want does environmental stewardship look like? It could be a creative recycling project put into motion, it could be a girl picking up trash at a local park or river, it could be planting a tree in your backyard. You could even work with a local organization to take your idea to the next level including partnering with Asheville Greenworks, Keep Catawba County Beautiful, Keep Gastonia Beautiful, Greensboro Parks and Recreation or participating in a stream clean-up.

If none of these opportunities work for you or you are looking for more flexibility on when to participate, you are also invited to participate in the Great American Cleanup- Keep America Beautiful. This program is the nation’s largest community improvement program that is taking place March 20-June 20 this year. It’s purpose is to beautify and unify communities across the country in a grassroots spring-cleaning movement. Celebrating its 23rd year in 2021, the GAC offers structured service projects to measure changes in littering behavior and heighten awareness about the benefits of caring for the environment through organized volunteer events, employee engagement opportunities and experiential education in communities across America.

Through the 2021 Great American Cleanup, Keep America Beautiful encourages all individuals to join the movement and help end littering. Local traditional litter cleanups will be planned and executed in communities where COVID-19 restrictions permit. Additionally, Keep America Beautiful encourages individuals to participate in individual or small-scale, physically-distanced cleanups- perfect for Weekend of Service! Sample GAC activities and events include:
· Removing litter and debris from roadsides, highways, shorelines and waterways
· Planting trees, flowers and gardens
· Cleaning and restoring nature trails, recreation areas and playgrounds
· Rebuilding and bringing resiliency to public spaces in communities struck by natural disasters
· Restoring urban, suburban and rural business districts and thoroughfares

Let us know if you plan to participate and Keep NC Beautiful will provide additional resources and supplies to help you.

There are so many options and no good deed is too small! You can find the GSCP2P 2021 Weekend of Service toolkit below to give you even more ideas to get started. We will also be hosting a Facebook Live kickoff event for Weekend of Service on Friday, April 9 at 6:30 p.m.

And as always, we want to hear about what our girls did! Share photos with us by e-mailing them to and use #DoingAGoodTurnGSCP2P2021 on social media. We also like our girls and leaders to document their service on our Do a Good Turn Weekend of Service online log so we can share what our sisterhood of Girl Scouts in doing to make the world a better place.

We hope you’ll do a good turn with us in April!
