Avery James, a member of Girl Scout Troop 2171, got a summer adventure filled with animals and exciting opportunities thanks to her Girl Scout Destinations trip, Discovering Careers in Animal Science.
For 10 days, James and 20 other Girl Scouts explored Tampa, Florida and got to participate in a variety of activities including kayaking and tubing, as well as getting up close and personal with a penguin habitat and watching a live horse surgery.
“My favorite experience on the trip was getting to go behind-the-scenes at the Tampa Aquarium,” said James.
Girl Scout Destinations are the ultimate adventure for Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors and Ambassadors. You can find more information about Destinations here.
James chose this specific trip because she wanted to see if she was interested pursuing a career path in veterinary medicine. But she would also recommend going on any Destinations experience.
“I love meeting new people and trying new things,” said James. “On a Destinations trip, you get to be with other girls from across the country, make new friends and grow your confidence in yourself.”
Along with Girl Scouting, James is also active with her school through Jr. Beta Club, Dungeons and Dragons Club, FFA, as well as youth choir and youth group. She has also earned her Girl Scout Bronze and Silver Award and is currently working on her Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting.
