Today’s Tips 9.16.24

A Message From the CEO

It’s time to “Be a VoteHer!” and get ready for election season! With the upcoming elections across the country, this is the perfect time to learn more about this civic duty and the importance of civic education, no matter what age you are. There are many activities and programs available through our council and with Girl Scouts of the USA so every Girl Scout can get involved and engage with their community’s civic activity.

This October, each service center will host a “Be a VoteHer!” event for Girl Scouts to earn the “Be a VoteHer!” patch and Democracy Badge with the women voters from her community. Be part of the excitement of the election process and learn the basics of being an educated and involved citizen, voting and taking action for a cause. (Please note: These are all non-partisan events.)

I’d also like to take this opportunity to remind our council of some important details on participating in the election season as a Girl Scout:

  1. When acting as a representative of Girl Scouts, there are limitations that prevent the support of individual candidates or political parties or engaging in other, specific partisan actions. You are not prohibited from participating in campaign activities in your personal capacity and on your own time; however, you may not use Girl Scout resources or wear Girl Scouts insignia to do so.
  2. There are many non-partisan activities that are encouraged such as participating in non-partisan voter registration drives, conducting non-partisan voter education and teaching Girl Scouts about the importance of participating in the election process.
  3. Girl Scouts are always in the public eye because of our passion and drive for important topics. Any GSCP2P member that is approached by a news outlet or reporter with questions about Girl Scouts or our council should always refer them to our phone number 800-672-2148 or e-mail address info@girlscoutsp2p.org and refrain from giving out any information, comments or quotes.

I’m so proud of our council for being courageous, using their voices and taking action each election season to engage and impact their neighborhoods. Thank you for being a VoteHer!

Jennifer Wilcox, CEO

Family Camp

We hope you enjoyed getting outdoors with your friends and family this past weekend during Girl Scouts Love State Parks Weekend. Continue the fun with the Girl Scouts Love States Parks patch or by registering for KPC Family Camp: Horsin’ Around with STEM! We have an exciting program at the barn filled with hands-on activities that delve into the intersection of science and horses. Girl Scouts of all ages are invited to register for the Horsin’ Around with STEM day program, or you can bring your whole family to camp for additional time to bond while trying traditional camp activities and spending the night in a cabin.

Adult Volunteer Resources & Trainings

We are honored to have so many wonderful adults join us as we build girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place! Do you know an amazing volunteer who made an impact this past membership year? Please take a moment to thank them by nominating them for an Adult Award.

Ready for a year of adventure? Make sure you have the appropriate training and licenses for your activities. For example, the Overnight & Activity License is an online course required for all overnights and field trips outside of a normal troop meeting. This training covers safety and procedures, how to incorporate girls of any grade level into the planning process, what to take and what to wear and more. Whether you explore STEM, outdoors, entrepreneurship, travel or other topics this year, our program resources can help!

Camporee requests for Spring 2025 are officially open! You can use the Spring 2025 Camporee Request Form to request a camp property and dates. Spring camporee requests must be received by 11:59 p.m. on October 25. After October 25, we will review requests and confirm all camporee dates with the designated service unit representative by November 8. Once all camporee dates are finalized, troop camping will open for all other available dates. Reservations are on a first-come, first-served basis. For questions about camporees or troop camping, please reach out to us at info@girlscoutsp2p.org or 800-672-2148.
