Keeping The Promise

This past weekend marked the 166th birthday of our founder, Juliette Gordon Low. At a time when women in the United States couldn’t yet vote and were expected to stick to strict social norms, encouraging girls to embrace their unique strengths and create their own opportunities was game-changing. Juliette ignited a Movement across America where every girl could unlock her full potential, find lifelong friends, and make the world a better place.
Our council is honored to support Juliette’s movement throughout central and western North Carolina. As we look back on our roots, we’ve also taken time to look back at our 2026 Membership Year and hope you feel inspired by all that has been accomplished after reading our new edition of our Keeping The Promise Newsletter.
We know that more great things are ahead for the 2027 Membership Year and are thrilled to have you join us for this adventure rooted in the Girl Scout Promise and Law. We are extremely proud of the accomplishments of our girls, thankful for the commitment of our volunteers, and appreciative of the generousity of our donors. Everyone plays an important role in keeping the Girl Scout Movement alive and well. From inviting new families into your troop and participating in your service unit, to supporting our ability to provide financial assistance and exceptional programming, there are many ways to embrace Juliette’s words of wisdom: “The work of today is the history of tomorrow, and we are its makers.”
Celebrate Native American Heritage Month
You can celebrate Native American Heritage Month this November by recognizing with your family and friends the histories, cultures, and contributions of the Native American communities that were the first inhabitants in the United States. Take this opportunity to learn more about the cultures of the Indian Nations in your state and across the country. We’ve got plenty of activities to choose from, so you can make new discoveries and have tons of fun while earning your Native American Heritage Month Patch.

Registrations Closing This Week

Registrations close today for our virtual Basic Camping Skills License Renewal course for volunteers happening on Monday, November 9. If you completed your camp license in 2021 or 2022, it is time to renew! Join us to review council policy and procedure updates, ask questions, and revisit the skills you need the most. The Basic Camping Skills License is valid for five years and is required in order to take girls camping in an established campsite with access to running water, bath house facility, and a designated fire ring. Because of revisions, Overnight & Activity License needs to have been taken in gsLearn after January 1, 2020 in order to take the Basic Camping Skills Renewal.
Girl Scouts of all ages are invited to discover how fish, plants, water, and people work together to create a sustainable growing system at Explore Aquaponics with 100 Gardens in Lexington on Saturday, November 14! Save your spot by Friday, November 6 and create your own mini aquaponics systems to take home and continue growing.

Last Week of Fall Product Program Fun
We are in the last week of the Fall Product Program! Girl Scouts are learning business skills, earning rewards and kick-starting troop funds for the Girl Scout adventures ahead! There is still time to create your avatar and online storefront as the online program ends Monday, November 9.
In addition to troop proceeds, Girl Scouts who participate can earn Nut Bucks and other reward items. Plus, troops who participate in the 2026 Fall Product Program and sell at least 100 items will receive an additional $0.05 per package of cookies sold during the upcoming Girl Scout Cookie Program. If you earn the crossover bonus and choose the higher proceeds plan for the Girl Scout Cookie Program, you earn $0.95 per package of cookies. That’s a $100 bonus for every 2,000 packages!
Don’t miss out on the opportunity to create your avatar and online storefront! Enjoy customizing your avatar and submit your design into our Avatar Fashion Show. Our mascot, Hopper, has some tips for Fall Product Program success:
- Don’t forget that one of the requirements to earn a personalized avatar patch is to send 20 e-mails, and e-mails aren’t only for friends and family that live far away!
- Practice good people skills. It is ok to send someone an extra reminder or even make a phone call to see if they received your e-mail. With the program ending soon, a friendly reminder marketing a sense of urgency can help motivate your customers to place an order before it is too late.
- It is always best to remain polite, resilient, and professional. If someone is not interested in making a purchase, you can offer an alternative, like donating to the Care to Share service project. If they decline your offer, still thank them for their consideration.

Reminder! Troop volunteers (two per troop) who create their avatar, participate in the parent/guardian e-mail campaign and, if the troop ends the program with at least $1,000 in sales, earn a troop T-shirt! Volunteers whose troop meets requirements must submit volunteer shirt sizes by November 13 or the troop volunteers forfeit this reward!

Where Community Grows: 100 Gardens

Through a partnership with 100 Gardens, Girl Scouts will explore how gardens can transform communities by increasing access to fresh, healthy food. Girls will learn about sustainable gardening practices, food systems, and the importance of reducing food insecurity through hands-on activities and meaningful conversations. Together, they’ll discover how growing food can also grow leadership, responsibility, and community.
More discoveries await! Use our Community Partner Directory to schedule unique experiences for your troop.
Adult Volunteer Resources & Trainings
Are you serving as a Troop Cookie Manager for the 2027 Girl Scout Cookie Program? Be sure to join the Troop Cookie Manager rally in Rallyhood if you’re taking on this role! This is where you’ll find important cookie program updates including cookie cupboard delays, inventory availability, last-minute changes, and other time-sensitive announcements throughout the season. Virtual Troop Cookie Manager Training is happening on Monday, November 9 and Thursday, November 19. Pick a session that works best for you and help girls take on cookie season with confidence! You can also join us on Thursday, December 10 for a virtual Digital Cookie Overview designed to help Troop Cookie Managers navigate our online platform.

Cookie season is an exciting time! Spread the enthusiasm and prepare your Girl Scouts by discussing goals and how they want to use their proceeds. What service projects, badges, or field trips are they interested in? Have girls help research the costs associated with their goals and discover how many cookies the troop needs to sell to cover those costs. Now is also a great time to review what it takes to earn the Cookie Challenge patches.
Virtual Cookies 101 sessions designed for all volunteers new to the cookie program are being hosted on Thursday, November 12; Wednesday, November 18; Monday, November 23; and Tuesday, December 1.
