This week’s #TroopTuesday shoutout goes to the girls of Girl Scout Troop #2276. For their Silver Award project, these girls planned a safety and self respect course aimed at teenage girls. The course included cyber security, self defense, healthy friend and relationship boundaries and more!
The girls brought in speakers from across the Gaston County region to participate in the event.
Officer Chad Owens (Gaston County police) discussed the dangers of human trafficking, cyber security and online bullying. He provided useful preventative tips and precautionary measures for the girls to practice daily.
Shawn McGinnis (McGinnis Academy of Martial Arts & teaches a self defense course at Forestview) taught self defense basics. Additionally, he taught the girls “red flags” and warning signs of abuse.
Mrs. Holly Myers (Crisis Ministries) taught the girls helpful self confidence skills and safe methods for discovering who you are.
Mollie Weakland (The Shelter of Gaston County) discussed healthy friend and romantic relationships and how to establish boundaries and mutual respect.
Congrats to the girls of Troop #2274 for all their hard work and for successfully completing an impactful Silver Award project.
