Are you a Girl Scout in 9th, 10th or 11th grade? Do you consider yourself to be a Global Citizen? If yes, then there is an opportunity for you to participate in a global impact through the Commission on the Status of Women in the UN 64th Session. Each year, Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) joins over 5,000 women and girls from around the world at the United Nations headquarters in New York to participate in the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW). CSW is a functional commission of the UN, dedicated exclusively to gender equality and advancement of women. Every year, national representatives of Member States gather for a two-week session to evaluate progress on gender equality, identify challenges, set global standards and formulate concrete policies to promote gender equality and the advancement of women worldwide. As NGO Consultative members, Girl Scouts of the USA and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts participate to bring the voice of girls and young women to the global stage. 2020 marks the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, a visionary agenda for the empowerment of women and girls worldwide. You can read about the Beijing Platform for Action here to get a better understanding of the impact we can have in the world.
Four girls will be selected after the application and interview process. The UN Application can be completed online here or in Microsoft Word here: Girl UN Application 2019. The application and a short video of why you want to participate is due to Valerie King at vking@girlscoutsp2p.org by October 28, 2019. The top fifteen applicants will be selected and will participate in 20 minute interviews on November 13, 2019. The top six will be chosen from the interviews and will be forwarded to GSUSA where the final four candidates will be chosen.
