A congratulations is in order for Alice Berry from Girl Scout Troop 2024 in Caldwell County for earning her Girl Scout Silver Award earlier this year! Alice took it upon herself to use her leadership skills, research and communication skills to establish a “Buddy Bench” at Wittenburg Elementary. With a background in foster care, Alice wanted children to use this bench to make a friend and to remember “they are not alone, there’s still hope”.
After some phone conversations and e-mails, Alice finally got the ok from the elementary school principal. Alice successfully learned how to use power tools, which bolts are sturdiest and actually wood turned the letters onto the bench herself! Through her project, not only did she demonstrate her leadership skills, she was also able to give back to a community close to her heart.
